About This Project

Found alongside squirrel monkeys in the forests of South America, the Agouti is similar to a Guinea Pig but is larger with longer legs. They have five front and three hind toes, and sit on their hind legs, rather like a squirrel, when they eat.

Sometimes known as “jungle gardeners”, they often bury nuts and seeds and forget where they put them, therefore helping new plants to grow.

When alarmed they raise the hairs on their backs and look a little like a porcupine!
